A Familiar Red Returns to Super2: The Tommy Smith Story
In a thrilling development, Tommy Smith's entry into the world of Supercars has unveiled a blast from the past. The former open-wheel racer's debut car has emerged, sporting a livery that will strike a chord with Supercars enthusiasts.
Today, as Smith takes to the track at Sydney Motorsport Park, he does so under the backing of SCT Logistics, a brand synonymous with the Dunlop Series. But here's where it gets interesting: SCT's presence in this series isn't new; it adorned the car of Smith's very own uncle, Jack, in the Dunlop Series.
"I'm thrilled to see the car unveiled and to finally get behind the wheel," said the 23-year-old Smith. "The car's design is incredible, and I'm deeply grateful to SCT Logistics for their support as I embark on my Super2 journey. Today is all about getting a feel for the car and building my confidence ahead of the season."
Representing Matt Stone Racing (MSR), Smith's ZB Commodore will don the iconic red of SCT Logistics. MSR, which is also supporting the satellite entry of Alice Buckley, is optimistic about the season ahead. "We're pleased with our pre-season progress and the data we've gathered so far," said team owner Matt Stone. "This track time is invaluable for Tommy as he gets accustomed to the car."
And this is the part most people miss: the Super2 grid for Round 1 at SMP is expected to be a competitive 17-19 cars strong. With such a tight field, every lap counts.
So, as we eagerly anticipate the start of the Super2 Series, the question arises: Will Smith's familiarity with SCT's red bring him luck, or is it simply a nostalgic nod to his family's racing heritage? What do you think, racing fans? Is this a sign of things to come, or just a fun coincidence? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
